Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses Fuel Record Growth for EssilorLuxottica in First Half of 2025
EssilorLuxottica, the global eyewear giant behind Ray-Ban and Oakley, reported on Monday that sales from its Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses more than tripled year-over-year, delivering a major boost to its financial results for the first half of 2025. The results showcase growing consumer appetite for AI-powered wearable technology, and mark a turning point for smart eyewear adoption in the mainstream market.
Total company revenue for the first six months of 2025 climbed to €14.02 billion (US$16.25 billion), reflecting a 7.3% increase compared to the same period last year, fueled in large part by the continued success of the Ray-Ban Meta glasses—a product born out of a collaboration with Meta Platforms Inc., which began in 2019.
CEO Statement: Eyewear as the Next Computing Platform
In a joint statement, EssilorLuxottica CEO Francesco Milleri and Deputy CEO Paul du Saillant positioned smart glasses as more than a trend, calling them the "next computing platform." They said:
“We are leading the transformation of glasses into a gateway for AI, sensory technology, and data-rich healthcare infrastructure—tools that will empower people and unlock our collective potential.”
This vision reflects a broader industry trend toward merging fashion, utility, and digital innovation in consumer wearables.
More Smart Products on the Horizon
In addition to the Ray-Ban Meta success, the company announced that its latest smart product line, Oakley Meta Performance AI glasses, was unveiled in June 2025, further diversifying its offerings in the high-tech eyewear space. EssilorLuxottica is also preparing for the launch of a Prada-branded line of smart glasses, according to reporting from CNBC, which is expected to deepen the brand’s luxury tech portfolio.
EssilorLuxottica’s smart glasses lineup now includes a growing array of connected eyewear options, bridging technology and fashion at scale. The company owns globally recognized eyewear brands including Ray-Ban, Oakley, Vogue Eyewear, and Persol, giving it a competitive edge in both distribution and brand influence.
Meta Partnership Extended for the Next Decade
In a major strategic move, Meta and EssilorLuxottica renewed their long-term partnership in September 2024, committing to a multi-decade collaboration on smart eyewear innovation. The agreement signals Meta’s deepening push into the hardware space, and further cements Luxottica’s leadership in wearable tech.
The companies plan to develop multi-generational smart glasses, featuring advanced AI capabilities, audio integration, and enhanced sensory feedback systems. This positions both brands to capitalize on the expected boom in augmented reality and ambient computing.
The Smart Eyewear Revolution is Taking Off
With smart glasses sales tripling year-over-year and tech-luxury collaborations on the rise, EssilorLuxottica is proving that connected eyewear is not just a novelty—it’s a scalable, global business model. The partnership with Meta, combined with high-end collaborations like Prada, positions the company at the forefront of wearable innovation.
As competition intensifies across the smart device landscape, EssilorLuxottica’s early traction may prove crucial in shaping how consumers see—and interact with—the future.
